Oscar Flashback — The Awards Connection

Followers of the Awards Connection and @AwardsConnect on Twitter must be asking themselves, "what the hell are these guys going to do when it's not Oscar season?" We do not, after all, cover the Emmys, Grammys, Tonys, Pulitzers, ESPYs, Webbys or any other non-film awards - though, I must say, the Brazilian Beer Awards do sound quite intriguing.

In fact, off-season for us at the Awards Connection may prove even more fun - if that's humanly possible - than the real-time awards season itself. That's because during the spring and summer (and a bit of the fall and winter, to boot), we'll be diving full-force back into Academy Awards history with the exciting-as-can-be project that is...the Oscar Flashback!

In the Oscar Flashback, we'll be taking a trip in our time machine back to past Oscar years, reviewing and ranking past categories, noting who was snubbed, who was robbed and who deserved more Razzie attention than they did Oscar recognition.

We'll also be posting film reviews as the year goes on and lists - lots and lots of lists. Like, for instance, all of Jack Nicholson's Oscar-nominated/winning performances, ranked. Or John Williams' scores. Or Thelma Schoonmaker's editing work. Who knows! Might seem like a snooze to your average Joe or Jane, but sounds like a jolly ole time to us!

With that said, for our first Oscar Flashback project, we will be traveling back in time to analyze the category that is Best Original Song. We'll take a look back at winners, from the likes of "Over the Rainbow" and "Moon River," to "Lose Yourself" and "Let It Go." We will also listen to all of the nominated tracks and determine just what REALLY should've taken home the golden statue that year. (I'm looking at you, "That Thing You Do.") At the conclusion of the project, we will have ranked every single Best Original Song winner, from best to worst.

This project will no doubt be a blast and, once we finally catch our breath from the zaniness that was this awards season, we'll get this show on the road.
